The MSBC is a non-profit with an ambitious strategic plan that is carried out by a dedicated group of volunteers.

Advocacy

This committee focuses on advocacy efforts to support breast/chestfeeding families in Maine. The committee follows relevant policy or legislative initiatives each year. These may include bills related to paid family and medical leave, workplace support, donor breast milk, postpartum health care, etc. 

  • Meets every 1-2 months.

  • Time commitment is about 2-4 hrs/month.

Communications

This committee develops communication plans to increase reach and deepen engagement, and to ensure education and resources are accessible and widely shared. Communication pathways currently include email, social media, website, blog, and MSBC meetings.

Diversity, Equity,
Inclusion, Belonging

This committee focuses on ways to deepen community engagement and inclusivity among underrepresented and underserved groups including individuals who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, low-income, disabled, and live in all geographical areas of Maine.

  • Meets every 1-2 months.

  • Time commitment is about 2-4 hrs/month.

Events/Fundraising

This committee is in charge of planning and implementing fundraising events (ie. World Breastfeeding Week/National Breastfeeding Month, Patchwork of Parenthood, etc.) and campaigns (ie. Annual Partnership Campaign).

  • Meets every month, sometimes twice a month.

  • Time commitment is about 2-5 hrs/month.

Professional Education/Development

This committee plans and promotes breast/chestfeeding educational opportunities and resources. Strategies include planning the bimonthly Educational Webinars and sharing other ways for professionals to expand their skill sets and knowledge.

  • Time commitment is about 2hrs/month.

Workplace Support

This committee's aim is to optimize workplace support for families in Maine. The committee is working on creating "best practices workplace toolkits" for employees and employers, developing a system to designate breastfeeding-friendly workplaces, and cultivating ways to increase the number of supportive work environments for families.
