Soft Corner Midwifery is a small group of radical providers dedicated to inclusive, accessible, evidence-based, and highly-individualized care. Midwives are often solely associated with pregnancy and birth, but Soft Corner midwives offer a safe space for all phases of reproductive care. Their services include fertility and pregnancy support, in-home insemination, holistic gynecology, and abortion support. As out-of-hospital providers, they will continue to offer home birth services, and they are now thrilled to offer another option for Maine families with the opening of their birth center in Bath.

The midwifery practice opened this birth center in Bath in September of 2022. Their bright, refreshing space includes a gorgeous birth suite with a queen sized bed and deep freestanding tub, as well as a cozy and modern clinic exam room with no stirrups in sight (turns out you don’t need those, even if you’re having a gynecologic visit!). Their other treatment room hosts a massage therapist, acupuncturist, pelvic floor therapist, and IBCLC. They are regularly hosting social club gatherings for new(ish) parents and a slew of workshops and other events. You may even spot the midwives hosting picnics for friends and their babes out on the lawn!

Families who choose to give birth in the hospital, don’t need to feel left out of Soft Corner’s care either. The midwives have them covered, too! The Soft Corner team offers a comprehensive Postpartum Care service that includes one prenatal planning visit and eight postpartum visits. Clients receive in-home visits from the midwives, lactation support (IBCLC), and an assessment from their pelvic floor physical therapist in those days and weeks after birth. This model sets families up for success, giving them access to a postpartum and newborn expert during those challenging early days.

Soft Corner Midwifery is also going beyond the call of duty. They are involved in many legislative pursuits, advocating for improved access to quality care in pregnancy, postpartum, body-feeding support, and overall health care justice. Soft Corner will always be a safe place for BIPOC, queer, and trans-identifying families, and will continue pushing for that to be the norm.
