Patchwork of Parenthood
The common refrain that we are divided deserves to be reviewed. For sure, these are dangerous times. Though we know that we have more in common with each other. And that is a strength. Parenting is a great example.
There is always drama and struggle in parenting…
as well as humor and compassion. It’s done in many individual ways and it’s hardly ever “a breeze.” However, as the saying goes, “Sometimes it is in the winds of change that we find our direction.” Our storytelling event is an occasion to recognize parents as they learn, change and find resilience. Each parent describes how they navigated in a new world with their new person.
Patchwork of Parenthood Saturday May 17, 2025
This year our “Patchwork of Parenthood” event will take place on May 17th, 7:00 p.m. at 14 Main St. (Fort Andross Mill) in Brunswick. Every story shared over at the previous four years has been compelling.
• One family learned early on that their child was deaf. There was much to learn as parents.
• A mother had been in intensive care after her baby’s birth and had much to resolve in that experience, along with the newness of parenting.
• A mother of five saw how each birth and each child was so different.
• A single mother used her wits and small resources to get the help her child needed.
• A mother’s first child was born in a refugee camp, far away from family and her own culture.
Parenting is inherently challenging.
Even though our stories are different, we can understand. We support each other first by listening and giving attention to an important moment.
I look forward to the Patchwork of Parenthood every year. It is a genuine and rich event. Please attend and bring your own parent or partner. Get there early so you can peruse the raffle. We’re glad for the range of support from our growing community.
Through these stories, we can relate to people we’ve never met before. This is important. What we have in common is deeper, and more important, than what divides us.
